File Tree

The file tree sits on the left side of the jvim layout when you open a vault directory. It uses vim-style movement keys and supports instant type-to-filter so you can locate files without leaving the keyboard.

The tree and the editor share the same window. Toggle focus between them at any time:

Ctrl+EFocus file treeSwitch focus from editor to tree
TabFocus file treeSame as Ctrl+E
qBack to editorReturn focus to the editor pane

Once the tree has focus, use standard vim movement keys to move through entries:

KeysActionNotes
j / kMove down / upOne entry at a time
gJump to topFirst entry in the tree
GJump to bottomLast entry in the tree
EnterOpen fileOpens the selected file in the editor

With tree focus active, start typing any sequence of characters. The tree filters instantly — only entries whose names contain the typed string remain visible.

There is no separate search box to open. The filter activates as soon as a printable character is typed. Press Backspace to narrow or broaden the filter, or Esc to clear it and show all entries again.

All file management operations are available directly inside the tree. A confirmation dialog appears before any destructive action.

KeysActionNotes
nNew filePrompts for a filename; creates the file in the current directory
rRenameRename the currently selected entry
dDeleteDelete with a confirmation dialog — cannot be undone

Empty or lightly-populated vaults show ~ padding below the last tree entry, consistent with the editor viewport. The markers are visual only.
